Lowitja Institute International Indigenous Health and Wellbeing Conference in Darwin, Australia. June 2019 - CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

‘...the futures we want as Indigenous peoples and our contribution to the wellbeing of the planet’

The Lowitja Institute International Indigenous Health and Wellbeing conference will be an Indigenous space built on First Nations knowledges and values.

It will be a space to connect Indigenous peoples, and non-Indigenous colleagues, and share the journey together.

Through the conference theme, the Institute invites an important discussion about the futures we want as Indigenous peoples and our contribution to the wellbeing of the planet.

Thinking Speaking Being

  • highlights the importance of language in enabling empowerment, cultural strength, wellbeing, and individual, family and community identity. It also reflects the international scope of the conference, its focus on solutions, and on benefits for communities on their terms
  • reminds delegates and presenters to consider the global implications of their work, to highlight the role of First Nations people in leading change, and to showcase Indigenous solutions
  • encourages ways of thinking and knowing in research, and ways of interacting and sharing knowledge including the role of language.

In this video, Romlie Mokak, Lowitja Institute CEO, outlines the vision for the conference.

can you helpWe know attachment is important for typically-developing children, but initiatives and literature focusing on attachment for children with very special needs is hard to come by.

If you know of relevant work or research please let me know.

A message from Tom Rickert:

Once again, we are beginning to prepare our newsletter, “Accessible Transportation Around the World.”  We invite you to send us news and photos concerning inclusive transportation in your country or region.

Please keep in mind that our interest includes bus, rail, and door-to-door transportation, including the use of smaller vehicles and pedestrian paths that are accessible by vulnerable groups of any age, including school children and older adults with disabilities.

With all best wishes,

Tom
