Service delivery models for people with intellectual disabilities in developing countries. What do you know? Call for papers

Services for people with intellectual disabilities in developing countries have, in some instances, come a long way from a lack adequate awareness among professionals and the wider community, to comprehensive services on a par with developed nations.

Some ecologically valid practices with a global appeal have been developed but there is little published data regarding such developments.

This special issue of the Journal of Intellectual Disabilities aims to address this gap by publishing examples of such ecologically valid, and empirically tested, service delivery models that are cost-effective, inclusive, and person-centred.

Safety of people with intellectual disabilities in general hospitals. Pharmacists can help reduce inequalities

Safety of People with Intellectual Disabilities in General Hospitals: How the pharmacist can help reduce health inequalities. By Bernadette Flood, MPSI.

People with intellectual disabilities (ID) are vulnerable in healthcare environments and general hospitals. For example, they have the following: health and healthcare inequalities; different health profile from the general population and often do not get their needs met; and, a greater risk of patient safety incidents when admitted to general hospitals.

Pharmacists working in general hospitals are ideally placed to increase awareness of the many patient safety issues in this vulnerable group.
