Services for people with intellectual disabilities in developing countries have, in some instances, come a long way from a lack adequate awareness among professionals and the wider community, to comprehensive services on a par with developed nations.
Some ecologically valid practices with a global appeal have been developed but there is little published data regarding such developments.
This special issue of the Journal of Intellectual Disabilities aims to address this gap by publishing examples of such ecologically valid, and empirically tested, service delivery models that are cost-effective, inclusive, and person-centred.
