Our Vision is for universal access to high-quality palliative care, integrated in a continuum of care with disease prevention and treatment, to assure that no patient or family caregiver suffers unnecessarily.

Our Mission is to improve the quality of life of adults and children with life-threatening conditions and their families by:

  • Facilitating and supporting palliative care training at all levels of healthcare systems;
  • Providing guidance and technical assistance with palliative care policy, advocacy, clinical guidelines, and service implementation, including assistance to governments and non-governmental organizations;
  • Fostering palliative care research and evidence-based practice;
  • Facilitating collaboration between hospice and palliative care providers, organizations, institutions and individuals

23. Women's Refugee Commission

There are currently more than 42 million refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) worldwide who have been displaced by conflict. Of these, 80% are women, children and young people and 26 million are IDPs. Every year, between 10 million and 40 million people are displaced by natural disasters.

Through research and fact-finding field missions, we identify critical problems that affect displaced women, children and young people, including gaps in lifesaving reproductive health care, lack of dignified livelihoods for refugees and, in the U.S., the treatment of asylum-seekers.

We document best practices and propose solutions, and develop innovative tools to improve the way humanitarian assistance is delivered in refugee settings. On Capitol Hill, at the United Nations and with humanitarian organizations, governments and donors, we push for improvements in refugee policy and practice until measurable long-term change is realized

The 'Humanitarian' section of Source provides access to resources which address the interrelation between disability and humanitarian response, disaster risk management and post-conflict settings.

This is a very broad topic area with transversal, multi-dimensional aspects which relate to the other topic areas of Source (namely Health and functional rehabilitation, Education, Livelihoods, Social inclusion).

APCA ascribes to the World Health Organization's public health approach to palliative care development. Our mission is to ensure that palliative care is widely understood, integrated into health systems and underpinned by evidence in order to reduce pain and suffering across Africa.

In achieving the above mission, APCA has provided leadership and coordination in the development of palliative care materials and resources tailored to the needs of African patients and healthcare providers.

These materials cover awareness, policy, advocacy, education and quality improvement in palliative care.

Electronic versions of resources can be downloaded for free.
