Childhood motor coordination and adult psychopathology in extremely low birth weight survivors

Conclusion: Poorer motor coordination in early life has a negative long-term impact on the development of MDD (major depressive disorder) and GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) of individuals born at NBW (normal birth weight). The long-term mental health risks of childhood motor coordination problems are significant and highlight the importance of recognizing motor deficits in all children, so that associated psychological difficulties can be identified and treated at an early age.

Palliative care and the Global Goal for Health – major report

News from eHospice: The International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care, the International Children’s Palliative Care Network, and the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) have released the report, ‘Palliative care and the Global Goal for Health’.

The Global Goals were adopted by the leaders of 193 UN member states at the UN General Assembly in New York on 25 September 2015. They build on the Millennium Development Goals set in 2000, and consist of 17 Goals plus their accompanying targets. These Goals aim to build a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, promoting prosperity and well-being for all, protecting the environment and addressing climate change.

Alcohol and pregnancy: Preventing and managing fetal alcohol spectrum disorders – BMA report

This revised BMA (British Medical Association) board of science report builds upon the findings detailed in the Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (June 2007).

This report outlines the responsibilities of healthcare professionals and sets out a wide-spectrum of recommendations for policy makers, to improve the prevention, diagnosis and management of these disorders.
