Nutrition and Nurture in Infancy and Childhood – International conference, June 2015, Lake District, UK

This 3-day international and interdisciplinary conference is organised by the Maternal and Infant Nutrition and Nurture Unit (MAINN), University of Central Lancashire. MAINN is led by Fiona Dykes, Professor of Maternal and Infant Health.

The conference links closely with the international journal Maternal and Child Nutrition (Wiley-Blackwell Publishing) that has its editorial office in MAINN. Dr Victoria Hall Moran, based in MAINN, is Senior Editor.

There is a growing understanding of the complex interactions between socio-cultural, biological, political and economic influences upon infant and child feeding, eating and nutrition.

The conference aims to:

• Illuminate socio-cultural, political and economic influences upon infant and child feeding practices.
• Explore the nature of relationships within families in connection with various types of nutritive and nurturing behaviour in infancy and childhood.
• Increase understandings of breastfeeding as a bio-psychosocial activity.
• Enhance understanding of the complex interactions between socio-cultural, psychological and biological factors in infant and child feeding, eating and nutrition.
• Focus on key initiatives that may impact upon practices related to infant and child feeding, eating and nutrition.
