‘...three days after delivery her baby suffered a convulsion...’

"Many caregivers whose children have developmental delays have similar stories. Their experiences taking care of the complex needs of their children are not well understood. These caregivers struggle to meet their children’s medical, behavioral, and social needs as they navigate through the complex health, social, and family systems.
"Today we share the experience of a mother called J. A whose child has cerebral palsy (CP). She shared her story with CLCD at a focus group discussion for caregivers with children living with CP.
"J.A had a smooth pregnancy and delivery. She did not have any complications during labor, however, three days after delivery her baby suffered a convulsion. Her baby got worse, as he would have as many as four convulsions in a day. As her baby grew, she noticed that he was not able to meet his milestone’s on time. When her son began to walk, she realized that he suffered weakness on one entire side of his body. During this time, her son could still not talk...."
