New Recruitment and Training DVD – I Could Do That! - Become a Short Break Carer.

i_Could_do_thatShared Care Network's new DVD of short films I Could Do That! is an essential tool for any service wanting to provide short breaks, childcare and activities to disabled children and young people.

The DVD together with the sister DVD Be the BIG Difference! will help services recruit carers from a range of backgrounds, for a variety of settings for disabled children with a range of disabilities including children with autism, challenging behaviour and complex needs.

All the films are available online and can be viewed at www.theBIGdifference.org.uk . The film 'I Could Do That' introduces those thinking of working with disabled children to the variety of ways you can provide short breaks and features carers from a range of backgrounds including men and people from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds. Other films focus on different types of short breaks (contract care, residential and universal services). Films like 'Meet the Children' will help services prepare and train new carers and those working with disabled children for the first time.

Services across the country will be using both DVDs and the online films to encourage people to think 'I Could Do That!' for example during Share the Care Week 21-27 March 2011. The films can be viewed and the DVDs can be purchased online for £5 (£175 for 100) and services can get advice on using the DVDs at www.sharedcarenetwork.org.uk
