End Child Poverty map: Barnardo's responds (UK)

In response to child poverty mapping published by End Child Poverty today which shows that in some constituencies the level of child poverty is nearly five times that of others, Barnardo's CEO Javed Khan said:

In pockets of the UK's richest cities nearly half the children grow up poor; it's a shocking indictment of our ability to tackle child poverty in these areas.

Low wages, rising living costs and welfare reform has pushed many of the families we work with to the brink of financial crisis, forcing them to make desperate choices between heating the house or buying food.

Politicians need to wake up to the on-going child poverty crisis in parts of the UK, taking action with joined-up proposals that tackle hardship at a local and national level. This includes preventing families reaching crisis point by restoring the link between benefits and inflation.
