Play therapy – helping children become more aware of their thoughts and actions
Play therapy allows children freedom to play as they wish in an environment where the therapist will keep them safe, physically and emotionally. Play therapists reflect back their client's actions both physically and verbally through a wide range of creative arts media such as drawing and painting, clay, music, puppets, movement, sand tray worlds and therapeutic storytelling, which the child chooses.
This helps them to become more aware of both their thoughts and actions. It encourages the child to stay with their actions for longer and they then begin to plan and follow through with their actions.
