Seminar ‘Early Childhood Intervention without Tears’ with Peter Limbrick, Herefordshire/Powys in May & Shrewsbury UK in July

Seminar ‘Early Childhood Intervention without Tears’ - protecting the mental health of infants with complex disabilities and of their family members

Interconnections is part of a new international network concerned with the psychological wellbeing of infants with disabilities and their families. In the UK and other countries there is little overlap between practitioners involved with disabled infants and those involved with infant mental health.

This is a seminar to discuss improving ECI services for babies and infants with disabilities - and their families. Discussion will be based on the topics raised in Peter Limbrick’s new book (see below) and will include:

Re-thinking aims and ambitions for an ECI service

How to protect and nurture the parent-infant bond of attachment

How to avoid infant and parents suffering physical and/or psychological stress and exhaustion

How to make the best use of practitioners’ time and energy without wasting resources

How to help parents maintain a good quality of life for infant and family – and support the family on its journey to a new normal family life

The Seminar is for practitioners, managers, family members and academics. The focus will be on babies and pre-school children who have a multifaceted condition (as was multiple/complex disability) including those with a short or uncertain life expectancy.
